Services

 a licensed psychologist in the State of Florida, Dr O'Brien adheres to all legal requirements and ethical guidelines ​in accordance with the practice of psychology. Confidentiality is especially valued.

You will also be informed prior to the beginning of services regarding relevant practice policies so that you may fully consent to treatment.

In addition, you will be given referrals to appropriate providers should Dr O'Brien believe you would be better served by another provider, as he is careful to practice within the limits of his competency. Dr O'Brien has relationships with mental health professionals throughout Tampa Bay and can assist you in locating a provider that's appropriate for you or your child's needs.

Dr O'Brien's office manager, Paula, is trained to answer many of your questions. You are encouraged to telephone Paula at 727-449-2628 with questions regarding fees, insurance reimbursement, and any other practice related concerns.

Treatment Approach

Dr. O’Brien believes in personalized psychological services which accommodate the unique needs of a child, adult, and/or family and are based on sound research. Respect and confidentiality are paramount, as is support and guidance without pressure or judgment. In addition, Dr. O’Brien is especially skilled in connecting with children through play and with adolescents through genuine understanding. 
 
Adult treatment is highly individualized and very flexible.  After thoroughly assessing someone’s current situation and needs, Dr. O’Brien will offer several treatment options and will work collaboratively. Therapy approaches vary from solution-focused to more growth-oriented depending on the particular needs of each person.

Parent Consultation

Parents often have especially challenging situations, and Dr. O’Brien recognizes the value of providing parents with support, information, and guidance while empowering them without judgement. Therefore, parent consultation is a specialized service which Dr. O’Brien offers regularly when working with a child or adolescent. 

​Such consultation may include providing developmental information, behavior management or communication skill building, or problem-solving and decision-making guidance for specific family challenges

Collaborative Partners

While Dr. O’Brien is a solo practitioner, he does not work in isolation. Two additional and respected colleagues also share the office.  

Dr. Ben Ghozali is a licensed psychologist whose expertise includes marital/partner therapy, family therapy, and men’s issues. 

Mari Broome is a licensed clinical social worker whose specialties include wellness, eating disorders, and women’s issues.
