WELCOME TO
DR. O’BRIEN’S PRACTICE

Since 1994, Dr. Steven O’Brien has been providing psychological services to the Tampa Bay community from his office in Clearwater, Florida.  Dr. O’Brien earned his Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. His clinical psychology training included a specialization in applied developmental psychology…essentially an intensive study of child development and how to apply such knowledge when providing psychological services to children and families.

Dr. O‘Brien provides assessment, psychotherapy, and consultation to children, adolescents, and parents.  While his primary specialty as a psychologist is child and adolescent therapy, Dr. O’Brien also offers psychological services to adults in the Tampa Bay area..

Accolades

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. O’Brien is a national speaker/trainer for PESI, one of the leading continuing education providers in the country. His workshops provide intensive training to healthcare and educational professionals seeking interventions for children with psychological challenges.
In 2015, Dr. O’Brien developed Life@Home by Psychtouch.com, an app which enables professionals who work with children to gain a perception of a child’s family…similar to a family drawing but with a nod to today’s technology.  He also serves as a mental health consultant for Spectrum Bay News 9, Tampa Bay's 24-hour news source, and is a frequent guest speaker in Tampa Bay and around the country.

What Colleagues Are Saying

Picture

"Dr. Steve O'Brien has been my go-to child psychologist since I was lucky enough to make his acquaintance 18 years ago. I have been a pediatrician in private practice for almost 30 years and his caring attitude and expertise in his field have been invaluable to me each and every day. Dr. O'Brien has an incredible innate insight into the mind of children and young adults and I am honored to call him my colleague and friend. Perhaps even more important is both his ability and willingness to teach others about his methods so that many, many more people can benefit from his knowledge." -   Gregory Savel, MD

"Dr. O'Brien has been a colleague of mine for over the past five years.  In that time, he has proven to be one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, and talented minds in psychology.  He has an innate ability to connect with children and families in a way that is both effective and non-judgmental.  He is continuously educating himself on the most current trends, while sharing his knowledge with other professionals through trainings and consultations.  There is a reason I have personally referred people to work with him...he is the best!
